Who provides funding?
Four levels on which wallbox funding takes place
Wallbox funding is a moving target: programmes launch, pause and return. These four levels are worth keeping an eye on.
Federal states
Individual federal states set up their own programmes for charging infrastructure – some for private individuals, some aimed specifically at companies, the housing sector or municipalities.
Municipalities & grid operators
In some places, towns, districts, municipal utilities and grid operators offer grants or bonuses – for example for controllable wallboxes that behave in a grid-friendly way.
Combination with PV
Some programmes specifically fund the complete package of PV system, storage and wallbox. Anyone planning both anyway should have the combination assessed before ordering.
Eligible costs
What can be funded
Depending on the programme, funding is not limited to the wallbox itself. Typically, the following items may be eligible:
- The wallbox or charging station itself – often with requirements for controllability or a green electricity supply
- Installation and electrical work: cable routing, meter cabinet adaptation, fusing
- Load management and intelligent control – especially with multiple charging points
- For businesses, sometimes also planning, grid connection costs and supporting infrastructure

The most important principle for almost all grant programmes: the application must be submitted and approved before you place the order. Here's how to play it safe:
Check the funding situation
We research which programmes are currently open for your location and your plans – at federal, state and municipal level.
Submit the application
The funding application is submitted before the order is placed – with the quote and technical documentation we provide for you.
Wait for approval
Only once the approval is in place are the order and installation carried out. Buying beforehand usually costs you the entire grant.
Submit proof
After installation, the invoice and commissioning report document the implementation – then the grant is paid out.

Is there currently funding for my wallbox?
This can only be answered reliably on a day-to-day and location-specific basis – programmes open and close at short notice. That is exactly why we check the funding situation as part of your enquiry, before you make a purchase decision. Just get in touch with us.
I've already bought the wallbox – can I still get funding?
In most grant programmes, unfortunately no: what almost always matters is that the application was submitted before the order was placed. This makes it all the more important to raise the funding question right at the start of the project.
Does the wallbox have to meet certain technical requirements?
Often yes. Typical requirements from past programmes included controllability of the charging power, fixed power classes or the use of green electricity. Together with you, we select a wallbox that fits the requirements of the respective programme and your vehicle.
Can businesses receive funding for multiple charging points?
Yes, there have been and are programmes specifically for company sites, fleets and employee parking – sometimes including load management and grid connection costs. For larger projects, it's also worth looking at tax instruments such as the investment deduction (IAB).
Is a wallbox worthwhile even without funding?
In many cases yes – especially in combination with a PV system: self-generated solar power is usually much cheaper than electricity at public charging points. Our Charging at home page shows how the two work together.
